Welcome to our website

This is the website of Avebury Cricket Club - a village cricket team playing friendly and league matches in Wiltshire. As we're half way through the off season we look forward to the 2008 season which promises to be full of entertainment, with the usual Sunday cricket along with some Saturday games in Division 1 of the Wiltshire League.

About us

Avebury Cricket Club in its current guise was founded around 18 years ago by our current President. We play about 45 games of cricket every year in and around Wiltshire, generally in the Summer. This web-site tells our story, and acts as a giant electronic filing system for all our averages and results

Although at heart we are and will always be a village side playing friendlies, we started playing Saturday cricket in the Wiltshire League in 2002, and have risen from the Division 5 to the dizzying heights of Division 1. This series of promotions is something of an achievement when you consider our geographical location equidistant from four much larger Club sides (Marlborough, Swindon, Devizes and Calne). We've been lucky to have lost practically no players at all over the last five years, and our team spirit is second to none. One of the great triumphs of the last five years has been that we have been able to run two sides consistently on both days of the weekend, and have enough players to allow almost all of the Saturday side to enjoy a well-earned rest on a Sunday! Whilst our official constitution makes no mention of the lighter side of cricket, the Club has always focused on having fun and enjoying ourselves, and also entertaining our loyal bunch of supporters who come to watch us play cricket.

No village cricket web-site is complete without the much-used phrase "we are always looking for new fixtures", but we really do mean it and we're easy to get hold of (see our contacts section for more details).
