Welcome to 2012 - The Drought Years
Hope everyone reading this is enjoying the mini Summer, and looking forward to catching up on the cricket field. At this time of year a visit to the ground can quite often be a sobering experience with the grass looking tired and the square undercooked. Not so this year. The weather has been kind and everything looks fantastic (with thanks to the groundsman) so please get in touch and give us your availability for games in 2012.
The year to date has seen more netting activity than ever before in the Club's history. Whether this will pay off, nobody knows - but it's been fun. We now look forward to the main activities of the season - putting up a decent showing in the Crusader Wiltshire League, and trying to improve on a miserable run of results on Sundays last year.
This web-site will endeavour to uphold its fine traditions of honest, unbiased match reports, and (with luck) a set of fixtures that bear some resemblance to the reality of what has been agreed. Twitter feed on this page will hopefully make live reporting easier to follow for our many fans around the world.
Many thanks and see you all soon
Fancy A Game?
Some twist of fate has landed the Mighty Avebury equidistant from the sprawling developments of Calne, Swindon, Devizes and Avebury. All these towns contain many cricket teams. The Mighty Avebury has a population of a little under 400, and the vast majority are unlikely to be attending pre-season nets. So, if you live anywhere near, and fancy a change of scene, please get in touch (see our contacts section for more details).
No village cricket web-site is complete without the much-used phrase "we are always looking for new fixtures", but we really do mean it and we're easy to get hold of (see our contacts section for more details).
If You Are Still Reading…
You can click on any of the hyperlinked words in this paragraph to view averages for the last I-don’t-know-how-many years, our results, and of course the now-famous match reports going all the way back to 2005, and on which so many of you have been good enough to share your opinions in the past. As with last season, following further discussions with authorities we will maintain our policy of "dumbing down" some of the racier comments that make it into those reports.
A fuller, and more complete history of Avebury Cricket Club is available on the history page.
